Characters and Stories
Every drawing has a story. I love thinking about demeanor and motivation and all the things that make up why a character feels a certain way and why they would more likely react one way than another. My stories evolve from the combination of characters and situational forces that eventually unfold into a sequence. I just need to ask the right questions.

Pepper and Frannie
Pepper and Frannie is my first book as both author and illustrator. These two characters evolved from a earlier illustration of two bunnies with backpacks pausing on their hike, presumably on a larger adventure. Pepper and Frannie took on bits of my own journey as a downhill skateboarder, my generous experience with falling, my adventures to all female motorcycling events in the woods, and the many encouraging friends I’ve met along the way…except it’s all mashed together, mixed, and remixed into a tidy 32 page dip.
The first book I illustrated, written by Gretchen McLellan, and Published by Holiday House.
It’s Showtime! A Pepper and Frannie Story
A second book! I’m so happy that I get to share more from this friendship! I tapped into a different well for this one, and I’m really looking forward to sharing it next spring (2020). Also published by Page Street Kids.
One thing I did not anticipate was how much fun I would have doing book readings and drawing with kids at events. I’m very excited about doing school visits and longer programs down the road. If you are a teacher, a librarian, a club councelor, or a book store owner…please get in touch!
